At the Getty

After a nice run on the beach in the morning, we headed to the Getty. We spent more time here outdoors than indoors.

However, there was a wonderful exhibit of Les Belles Heures, The Book of Hours of the Duke of Berry from the Middles Ages. Ended the day with a walk on the beach, with a few hardy souls in the water.

Here’s some information on our bike trip and hike. Our first expedition will be a 10 day bike trip with Pedaltours. Here is the link to their trip description:
http://www.pedaltours.co.nz/index.cfm/PageID/16/ViewPage/Southern+Alps+10+days

We will also be doing a walk on the Milford Track. The tour company (Ultimate Hikes) has a great video of this walk at:

Click on the “Explore the Walk” button and then the “Continue” button to get to the video button.

Right now, the living room is scattered with piles of biking clothes, hiking clothes and other. All to be squished into our suitcase. Thursday we leave for L.A. and then on Sunday we fly to Auckland -- arriving there on Tuesday AM.

Retirement and shakedown hike in NH

Well, Jane and and I are now both retired - she retired in November 2008, and I retired just before Christmas 2008. My retirement was expecially sweet for me - the day before everyone at Konarka posed for a group picture of the first set of our photovoltaic modules ready for shipment to a customer.

We are taking advantage of the month off before starting our trip to New Zealand by working out in the gym, running and cross country skiing to get in shape for the trip.

Last summer just after Labor Day Jane and I did a hike in the Presidential range of New Hampshire's White Mountains to test all of our fancy new hiking gear. We had spectacular weather! It is not often that you can hike above timberline in the Presidentials with a tank top and running shorts, but that is the weather that we had! I have posted a few pictures from that trip.
